Peter Tase: Armenia must immediately end occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh

12 July 2019 07:00 (UTC+04:00)

Baku, Azerbaijan, July 12

The protracted armed conflict in Azerbaijani territories, occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh by Armenia must end immediately, Peter M. Tase, expert in Transatlantic Relations and Azerbaijani Studies, a senior advisor to the Global Engineering Deans Council and to various European and Latin American governments, told Azernews, Trend reports.

He noted that Azerbaijan has been very careful, pragmatic and consistent when it comes to solving the armed conflict of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Tase stressed that Baku is a trusted partner of the West and has established an admirable reputation when it comes to embracing a negotiations practice that is envied by some of the most sophisticated democracies in Europe.

“On the other hand, issues arising from the internal disputes in Armenia are matters that must be resolved among Armenian political leaders and civil society,” he mentioned.

The expert pointed out that Nagorno-Karabakh is a sovereign territory of Azerbaijan, historical sources and archaeological sites show ample evidence of this region considered to be the heart of Azerbaijani nation and economy. He added that this conflict that has serious security implications throughout Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East.

As to additional steps needed to be taken to advance the negotiation process on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, he considers that first, the Armenian Armed Forces should withdraw from the occupied territories and second, the Azerbaijani communities, that were forced violently to leave their homes in Nagorno-Karabakh, should be allowed to return in their hometowns.

US-Expert, PETER TASE:”Armenia destabilize region by expected military exercises near Azerbaijani borders” [EXCLUSIVE]

By Abdul Kerimkhanov

The military drills expected to take place in Armenia are certainly an open provocation against Azerbaijan, in particular, Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Peter M. Tase, Scholar of International Affairs and author of various books on Azerbaijani Studies and Latin American Politics, said in an interview with Azernews.

“Armenian Armed Forces together with Iranian Defense Forces are openly destabilizing the fragile security environment in the Caucasus; violating international laws and UN resolutions; encouraging Yerevan to continue with its occupation of Azerbaijan’s sovereign territory; and undermining the peace dialogue that is shaped by OSCE Minsk Group (that was established by OSCE in 1992 and unfortunately has been incredibly weak when it comes to delivering tangible results and avoiding double standards),” he stressed.

The expert said that the majority of officers in Azerbaijani Armed Forces in Nakhchivan is trained in the Western European countries and they have successfully completed Special Forces training in some of the best military schools of Europe and North America.

“On the other hand, within the Armenian Armed Forces, their level of moral is at its worst levels and overall lack of ammunition to sustain prolonged fighting and weak military training would make Armenia a very unsuitable party to start an offensive; within a matter of two hours (after their offensive), Yerevan’s forces will be met with a destructive force and large scale irreparable damages from the immediate counterattacks of Azerbaijani Armed Forces. It is very inopportune for Armenia to undertake an offensive against Azerbaijani territories at this day and age,” he said.

Tase called the world community to understand that Armenian leadership is always articulating pro-war rhetoric due to their selfishness, fake aggressive impulses and stupidity.

“Meanwhile, Azerbaijan is hosting International Scholars and Students every year to engage in dialogue of peace, multiculturalism, study the interfaith tolerance that has existed for centuries in Azerbaijan and is a great practice towards fomenting peace and prosperity in the Caucasus, Eurasia and Africa. Baku International Multiculturalism Centre and its Executive Director Ravan Hasanov and its Chairman of the Board Academician Prof. Dr. Kamal Abdullayev are doing amazing work towards strengthening peaceful inter-religious dialogue, globalizing the positive cultural values of Azerbaijan and preserving peace, economic prosperity and promote realpolitik in Europe and Asia,” the expert noted.

Further, he shared comments on U.S Congressman Bradley Sherman, and his proposal to amend the “National Defense Authorization Act” of the U.S. and prohibit the sale to Azerbaijan of American weapons that can be used against the so-called “civil aviation” of the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh. Tase noted that the legislative initiative recently sponsored by the U.S. Congressman Bradley Sherman is one of many prominent projects in favor of Armenia and its occupation of Azerbaijani sovereign territory.

Opinion Azerbaijan: A Global Partner In Defense Of Peace And Prosperity – OpEd June 29, 2018 – Peter Tase

Since the establishment of its independence in October 1991, the Republic of Azerbaijan has rushed forward embracing the democratic values of the European Union and uniquely emerged as a stable, developing and secular Muslim-majority nation when Heydar Aliyev became its first President in 1993.

Over the years, Baku has harnessed a close cooperation with the United States and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, especially in the fields of security, war against terrorism, and strengthening its democratic institutions.  It must be emphasized that Azerbaijan’s Armed Forces have served alongside with U. S. and NATO Forces for many years; their unwavering commitment has significantly delivered concrete results within the International Security Assistance Force operations in Afghanistan.

Furthermore, Azerbaijan is characterized for being the only Muslim country serving together with western allies and has become an important logistics hub for NATO troops as their supplies make their way to Afghanistan and Iraq.  Currently the Azerbaijani Armed Forces remain active despite of the overall troop drawdown.

Moreover the EU on its 2016 report entitled “A Global Strategy for the European Union’s Foreign and Security Policy” states: “… We will act globally to address the root causes of conflict and poverty, and to promote human rights.  … The EU will engage in a practical and principled way in peace building, concentrating our efforts in surrounding regions to the east and south, while considering engagement further afield on a case by case basis. The EU will foster human security through an integrated approach.”

While the Republic of Azerbaijan has genuinely contributed with troops and resources in the war against terrorism and organized crime, the European Union Global Strategy and Washington on the other hand have failed to properly address, incur a concrete progress and actively engage in the negotiations table intended to solve the ongoing war of Nagorno – Karabakh, were the Armenian Armed Forces continue to occupy over twenty percent of Azerbaijani sovereign territory and inflict pain, destruction and violence among Azerbaijani civilians and environment.

European Union’s goal in “implementing a multi-dimensional approach through the use of all available policies and instruments aimed at conflict prevention, management” has proved to be irrelevant, and Brussels has kept a prolonged silence when it comes to solving the Nagorno-Karabakh protracted war and ensure Azerbaijan’s full territorial sovereignty and hold Armenia accountable.

Moreover the ongoing conflicts in Afghanistan, Mali, Somalia and Syria, demonstrate EU’s and NATO’s diminished role towards becoming major players to solve and invest more resources in the de-escalation of the ongoing conflicts in the outskirts of Europe, Africa and the Mediterranean.

At a time when the EU and NATO continue to keep a blind eye towards the flagrant crimes against humanity committed by Yerevan’s Fascist Government inside the sovereign territory of Azerbaijan; the latter sent in 2017 a group of 70 Azerbaijani military troops to Afghanistan to serve with the NATO led Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan, to provide a vital support in the stability and security of this country.

Peter Tase: Azerbaijan is of great importance for France as indispensible ally

Baku, Azerbaijan, July 23

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

Azerbaijan is of great importance for France as an indispensible ally, Peter Tase, US expert on Global Politics and Transatlantic Relations, an adviser to Global Engineering Deans Council and other prestigious International Institutions told Trend July 23.

He was commenting on the results of the recent visit of Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev to Paris.

“It is strategically important for the French government and French companies to have Azerbaijan as a principal trade partner, and as an indispensable ally in the fields of multilateral diplomacy, economic cooperation and cultural diplomacy,” he said.

Tase added that President Aliyev’s visit to France has brought even closer the economic, commercial, political and cultural cooperation between both countries.

“During the visit, Azerbaijan’s president met with Airbus Vice-President for Eurasia Silvere Delaunay. A greater cooperation between Airbus and Azercosmos OJSC would generate remarkable results for the benefit of both governments. Currently Azersky and Spot 6 satellites have made a great impact in the international markets and the image of Azerbaijan has risen significantly abroad, thanks to such an attractive project, swiftly implemented under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev,” he said.

Tase noted that strengthening bilateral cooperation with Airbus will enable Azerbaijan to become one of the world’s leading nations focused in defending Information technology networks from cyber-attacks.

He believes that the signing of major trade agreements with French companies will bring new developments in Azerbaijan and improve the living standards of the Azerbaijani people.

Azerbaijan has emerged as a key economic partner of France, he said, adding that bilateral cooperation in science, cultural diplomacy, commerce and trade has reached record levels.

Tase noted that the embassy of Azerbaijan in Paris has done an impeccable job in strengthening the Azerbaijan-France cooperation and dialogue.

PETER TASE, “Spero News” contributor sees Muslim tolerance in Azerbaijan

Spero News contributor Peter Tase, a widely traveled lecturer on geopolitical topics, delivered a keynote lecture at the International University of Travnik (IUT) in Bosnia and Herzegovina that focused on what he asserts are the values of multiculturalism promoted by Azerbaijan that were assailed by Armenia during the Nagorno-Karabakh War. Since his presentation in October, Tase told Spero News, “Since the early Middle Ages, the dominant current of Islam among Azerbaijani religious scholars has been Tasawwuf — the traditional Islamic teaching of self-improvement and spirituality— which in the West is better known as Sufism. Sufism promotes love, brotherhood, and harmony with people, regardless of their ethnic and religious identity, and has played a major role throughout the Islamic world in spreading tolerance towards other religions, cultures, and races.”

Tase recently returned from a trip to western Azerbaijan where he visited the Tartar region that borders on the region controlled by Armenia.
